Port Douglas

Port Douglas Beaches

The increasingly popular and spectacular resort town of Port Douglas, Australia is renowned for one beach and one beach only; the world famous Four Mile Beach. This seemingly endless strip of dazzling white sand is, as the name implies, a 4-mile beach. Although dotted with hotels along its shores, they are barely visible from the sand giving the impression of complete and total solitude. This protected natural environment boasts spectacular views to the south as well as warm tropical waters in which to float.

Just off the coast of Port Douglas, nestled on the verge of the Great Barrier Reef, are the spectacular Lowe Isles. Once home to an operating lighthouse, these uninhabited Islands are home to numerous giant sea turtles as well as some gorgeous sandy beaches.

When you've had your fill of snorkelling through the amazing array of soft corals and other sea life, you can lie back on the sand and soak up the peace and tranquillity that is Port Douglas tourism at its best.

If you don't mind a bit of a drive, you'll find a near endless supply of tropical north Queensland beaches on which to lay your towel.

Cape Tribulation, an hour's drive north of Port Douglas, is where the rainforest meets the beach. In the midst of the Daintree National Park, these beaches are truly one of nature's wonders, unspoilt and unchanged since time immemorial.

Cairns is also a short trip away and this seaside stretch of the Cook Highway offers some of the most beautiful ocean scenery you could ever hope to see, with barely a soul in sight.
